We are feeling so fortunate! Today we confirmed that the Bethel Institute for Community Development will be our fiscal sponsor for the upcoming Fest! We can’t tell you how important it is to have the support of such a wonderful organization that has made such a great impact on the community. It certainly takes a village to get the Fest off the ground and we are so lucky to have BICD in our corner!

The Boston Kids Comics Fest is thrilled to announce that Victoria Jamieson, author of Newbury award winning comic Roller Girl, and her co-author Omar Mohamed for When Stars Are Scattered, will be joining us for the Fest!

From Victoria’s website:

My lastest graphic novel (coming April 14, 2020) is co-written with Omar Mohamed. This book tells the story of Omar’s childhood spent in the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Omar and his younger brother Hassan fled their homeland of Somalia when civil war broke out, and spent the next 18 years in Dadaab.

Omar now lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is the founder of the non-profit organization Refugee Strong, which delivers school supplies to students still living in Dadaab.

The color in this book were provided by Iman Geddy, an artist living in Atlanta. You can visit her website to view her beautiful artwork.

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with 826 Boston! 826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally under served students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. All of their programs provide tutoring support to students and encourage them to develop their writing skills, explore their imagination, and tell their stories—including through comics!

Look for 826 Boston at the Fest – they’ll be running a workshop, exhibiting in the exhibitors’ hall, and sharing student writing in professionally-designed books. Check out this picture of 826 Boston at the Boston Book Festival running a workshop creating interactive comic panels. We’re so excited they’ll be joining us this year!.

And, here we go with our next exciting announcement – author Beth Ferry, known for Stick and Stone (illus by Tom Lichtenheld) and The Scarecrow (illus by Terry Fan & Eric Fan) will be joining us at the Fest! Her first comic Fox and Rabbit (illus by Gergely Dudás – Dudolf) is, according to Kirkus Reviews: “Five laugh-out-loud stories that celebrate an unlikely animal friendship . . . Picture-book author Ferry’s first foray into comics is an infectiously chipper series opener.” And, its coming out on April 21st so Fest-goers will be among the first to get their hands on it! Thanks to ABRAMS Books for helping Beth come to the Fest!!!
